Permanently remove your account and data
We're sorry to see you go. This page explains how to delete your Clarity account and what happens to your data when you do.
Before You Delete
Please consider the following before deleting your account:
- This action is permanent. Once deleted, your account and all associated data cannot be recovered.
- Export your data first. If you'd like to keep a record of your progress and journal entries, export your data from Settings > Export Data before deleting.
- Cancel your subscription separately. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your subscription. Please cancel through your Apple ID settings first to avoid future charges.
How to Delete Your Account
Option 1: In the App (Recommended)
The fastest way to delete your account is directly in the Clarity app:
- Open the Clarity app
- Go to Settings (gear icon in the top right)
- Tap Account
- Scroll down and tap Delete Account
- Confirm your decision when prompted
- Enter your password or authenticate with Face ID/Touch ID
- Your account will be marked for deletion
Option 2: Via Email
If you cannot access the app, you can request account deletion by email:
- Send an email to delete@clarityapp.io
- Use the subject line: "Account Deletion Request"
- Include the email address associated with your Clarity account
- We will verify your identity and process your request
For security reasons, email deletion requests may take longer to process as we need to verify account ownership.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Account information: Your email, profile, and authentication data
- Progress data: Your sobriety streaks, milestones, and tracking history
- Journal entries: All personal reflections and notes
- Chat history: All conversations with the AI coach
- Settings and preferences: All app customizations
What We Keep
Even after account deletion, we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes:
- Transaction records: Purchase history for tax and accounting purposes (without personal data)
- Anonymized analytics: Aggregated, non-identifiable usage data
- Legal compliance data: Information required to comply with legal obligations
Deletion Timeline
After you request deletion:
- Immediately: You will be signed out and lose access to the app
- Within 24 hours: Your data is marked for deletion and no longer accessible
- Within 30 days: All your personal data is permanently deleted from our servers
- Backup systems: Data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days before being purged
Cancel Subscription First
Important: Deleting your Clarity account does not automatically cancel your subscription. To avoid being charged:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Find and select Clarity
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period, even after you cancel.
Changed Your Mind?
If you've requested deletion but changed your mind:
- Within 24 hours: Contact us immediately at support@clarityapp.io and we may be able to restore your account
- After 24 hours: Your data may already be deleted. You're welcome to create a new account, but your previous data cannot be recovered
